Zig Ziglar the famous American sales trainer made the statement, “selling is professional persuasion”.  As sales professionals the act of persuasion has to be taken to a higher level as your income and livelihood depend on it. The same approach to developing selling skills can be likened to other professions and sportspeople as most of us are not born with the full set of skills to be successful. The desire to perfect what we do drives us to seek out and lean what is required to reach the level of performance we would like to achieve.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Skills Development.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In selling your knowledge and skills are your main survival tools and will be in many cases the difference between success and failure. Without the attitude and drive to perfect how you go about your selling will lead to frustration and disappointment. It is rare to be born a salesperson, but I would suggest there is more opportunity for you to become a good salesperson than almost any other type of profession &#8211; regardless of your education and upbringing. Preparing for yourself education is just as important as preparing any other area of your overall business plan. Time and effort needs to be allocated to develop you’re selling skills as they will determine whether you continue making sales.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Regardless of what you are selling the ground rules on which all selling is founded and the process remains the same with the type and style varying depending on your industry. Prospecting for clients and customers is only the beginning. The promotional tools are only successful if they gain the attention of the prospects and prompt them to act. It is your attitude and ability to negotiate your proposition effectively that will complete the transaction.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Getting prospects to buy from you is what selling is all about. However one of the most common mistakes salespeople make in their presentations is failing to ask questions to discover what the prospect wants, and to understand effectively by carefully listening to the answers. It is through targeted questions and their answers that the professional salesperson will get the full picture of the buyer’s needs and be in a controlling position to present their product or service.</p>
